What is a capital stewardship campaign?
A capital stewardship campaign is a church-wide concerted effort to raise funds for facility enhancement and a highly visible and aggressive evangelistic thrust.
Why are we starting a capital campaign?
To realize the long-standing vision we have to reach out to our community.
Is there a scriptural basis for this type of campaign?
Yes, the Bible gives examples of special projects that challenged God’s people to give extra offerings in addition to what they normally give (Exodus 25 and 35, 1 Chronicles 29).
How and when will the campaign be conducted?
We launched the campaign on our anniversary, December 2, 2007, and it will go through the Celebration Sunday, February 3, 2008. “P.I.E.” meetings (Pastor Information Exchange), a series of stewardships lessons, Sunday morning pastoral messages and print materials will be utilized to present the “It Takes a Village” vision to the congregation.
What is Celebration Sunday?
Celebration Sunday, February 3, 2008, is the day when we made our three-year stewardship commitments.
What will it take for our campaign to succeed?
If each of us will pray, search the Scriptures and respond in obedience, not only will our campaign be successful, but more importantly, we will accomplish the purposes God has for us as individuals and as a church.
What exactly are the projects we are raising money for?
• Campus Development
• Refinancing of our 18 acres
• Property Acquisition
• Debt Retirement
Why are these projects important?
To meet the present and future ministry needs of our church enabling us to reach out beyond ourselves to build God’s Kingdom.
How much will these projects cost?
The projected cost for Phase 1 is $5.2 million. The projected cost for Phase II will be $12.8 million.
How much will I be expected to give?
There is no set formula, no “fair share”. Each of us should begin to seek the Lord for direction on how much He desires to provide through us. Our giving should be above and beyond our tithe and offerings and should involve sacrifice and an act of faith on our part. Equal Sacrifice, Not Equal Gifts.
What is meant by “equal sacrifice, not equal gifts”?
Everyone in our church has different giving and potential due to the nature of their work and their financial situations. While the amount we each can give will vary, we should each be challenged to give faithfully with equal sacrifice towards fulfilling the vision.
How long do I have to fulfill my commitment?
Giving will be spread out over a 36-month period. You can give weekly, monthly, or in onetime gifts. Some may also wish to donate tangible assets. If appropriate, the church will issue a letter of receipt for these items and you may include their reasonable or market value in your charitable giving on your tax return.
Will monetary commitment be made public?
No, individual commitments will not be made public. However, the leadership and congregational total commitments will be made public.
Why do I have to fill out a commitment card?
The purpose of the commitment card is to provide the church with an indication of approximately what total we can expect, so that we can plan for the future.
How will commitments to the Campaign be made?
Commitments will be made weekly, monthly, or annually over the next three years. Of course, you may also give non-cash gifts such as real estate, land, stocks bonds, collectibles, jewelry, etc. Commitment cards will be completed by the congregation at the Altar of Commitment service on Sunday, February 3, 2008.
Will anyone contact me regarding my giving?
We will be asking for all of us to make a “faith promise” - that is, an indication of what finances you believe God will provide through you. Your giving is a covenant between you and God.
